Who are we?

Welcome!

Thank you for being here.

If you found your way to this part of our website, you might be wondering who the heck we are?

Well, let me tell you. My name is Loany (if ya can’t pronounce that, Lo works too). I am from Minnesota, the land of the freezing cold. If I had to pick between the beach or the mountains, I would probably go with the beach. I love spending time in nature; I am passionate about people, and of course- food!

Karisa is from Oregon, and grew up in Beaverton. If she had to pick between the beach or the mountains, I think she would probably pick the mountains. She is one of the most creative people I know, is passionate about seeing the world, food and sharing it with people around her.

We met about 5 years ago when we both taught overseas in the Marshall Islands. Karisa was the first grade teacher, and I was the second grade teacher.

We taught for a year in Majuro and had the experience of a lifetime. Little did we know that, that year on the island would change our lives, make us best friends, and fast-forward to us opening up a vegan café together! Life is pretty wild.

Let me rewind so that you know where we both came from before we met in the Marshall Islands. As I mentioned above, I grew up in Minnesota and at the time I was going to college in Tennessee. I felt called to step out of my comfort zone and to go overseas for a year. Plus, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so taking a year off seemed like the right move.

At the time Karisa has just completed her first year of college in Walla Walla, WA. She also felt called to take a year off and go overseas. She picked Majuro because she had a special connection to the place. Her parents actually met in Majuro and taught there years before she was even born. And the rest is history.

I guess Majuro really has a way of bringing people together.

I know we are both glad we stepped out of our comfort zones that year and decided to live on a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean. Had we not done that, we would have never met, and we would not be opening a vegan restaurant together.

We want this blog to be a place where we share our café journey with you and our passion for plant-based food. We will be sharing recipes, health/wellness tips, and overall lifestyle tips with you.

We are excited that you get to be a part of our journey! Are you ready? We cannot wait for what is to come.
